The Invisible String

THEME - SEPARATION AND CONNECTION

I have been recommending this book ALOT lately to help children manage being separated from lots of people they care about and for when they feel anxious about their parents leaving for work in these uncertain times. The premise of the book is that we are all connected by invisible strings which represent the bonds of love. The children explore where these strings are and how they can help them to understand that they are loved and remembered by the people they miss.

Away from these obvious day to day applications, I have found it therapeutically helpful with children who are working through issues relating to parental divorce, bereavement, moving school and emigration.

I think this is a fab book for any children’s library, whether at home or as a clinical resource. There are endless different play ideas you could do to support the theme. If you’re struggling to think of any, check out Pinterest.
