Play & Play Therapy
The Importance Of Play
As a Play Therapist, I clearly believe in the power of play as an effective tool to communicate with children and for them to explore and master their world and experiences. It is important to me to explain the benefits of play, explain different types of play and encourage adults to be both playful with children and playful in their own right - you’re never too old to play!
I am also very passionate about explaining the difference between Play Therapy and other Play Interventions. I think there is a lot of misconceptions about what Play Therapy is and very little understanding about what safe, appropriate and clinically effective standard of training involves. If someone has not spent years training to be a Play Therapist at university level and is not accredited by a governing body, they are not what I would consider to be a true Play Therapist who is able to competently offer psychological intervention and advice related to our specialist field.
This section, therefore, explores the general theme of play, the power of Play Therapy and reputable clinical training.
