Red: A Crayon’s Story
THEME: IDENTITY AND ACCEPTANCE ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is the story of a crayon who is labelled red on the outside but is actually blue on the inside. The crayon can’t live up to the expectations of what a red crayon should be. The crayons friends and family all have an opinion about how to ‘cure’ the crayon’s problems and say some derogatory things about why he isn’t conforming. Lazy. Not very bright. Not applying itself. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The one day the crayon meets someone who sees the true self within and encourages the crayon to accept it’s real identity. With this encouragement and support, the crayon flourishes. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This book is really gentle yet visual way of describing how someone can struggle to fit in until their true self is recognised. I think it is a valuable resource to encourage discussions about identity, inclusion and empathy. Amazing
